ACTION MEDICAL RESEARCH CHARITY EMAIL

Nick and friends do something vaguely athletic for a
very good cause

In this world of so much choice and opportunity its
often difficult to work out what the best course of
action is so you end up doing nothing instead. So Jo,
Tony F, Kim and I have decided to climb mountains.
Why? Well, we figured that if Hannibal could be
bothered to invade Italy by lugging a ten mile long
line of elephants through the Pyrenees to defeat the
Holy Roman Empire, how hard could it be to do
something that sounded equally impressive but was much
easier? So thats the challenge. No, not to mince
over the Pyrenees with 780 elephants and a St Bernard,
but to do the British equivalent with far more speed
and style. Action Medical Research have set us the
challenge of legging it up the three biggest mountains
in England, Scotland and Wales in
. 24 hours. Yes,
well be peaking three times in 24 hours. Its going
to be so exciting that were going to film it, or at
least 30 second victory films at the top of Snowdon,
Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis with Kims mobile so you
could relax on a Friday night in after the event
examining zoomed in footage of my throbbing blisters.
Action Medical Research, unlike the Carthaginian
empire, are trying to save and improve live.
Successes include a vaccine for polio and right now
theyre working hard to help ladies with swollen
bellies by attempting to prevent premature birth and
life-threatening pregnancy complications. In effect
youd be sponsoring three idiots walking over a
mountain to provide a life for those who may never
have a chance. Anything you can help with would be
awesome.
The down side of this venture, is that we had to have
a team name, and I dont think that when we drunkenly
voted on a team name, we really had a corporate
audience in mind. I could have said that Hannibals
trusty St Bernard was called Scratch and his lead
elephant was called Sniff and hence we came to a
wholly inappropriate name. That would have been a lie
though.
To sponsor me, Jo, Tony and Kim please can you visit
http://www.action.org.uk/giving/sponsorship/account_details.php?user=ScratchnSniff
and dip your much appreciated toe into the proverbial
charity water. Just click on the Sponsor Scratch n
Sniff link on the top right. Please. You will be
helping a charity that will make a difference to
millions of lives (they also helped develop ultrasound
scanning for pregnancies).
Oh, were doing the walk on Saturday 7th July.
Starting at 4am up Ben Nevis. Happy days. Hope it
rains.
Thanks again,
Nick. |
Hi guys,
A friend of mine, Kim Osborne, has entered her school choir into the Any Dream Will Do competition (Joseph). The Gerrards Cross CofE School needs your vote!
Just after lunch time tomorrow until Saturday, you can go online and place your vote. If they get enough votes they will be short listed on 19th May to go through to the final selection by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber!
I figured mmalo was a good enough way to badger people, so please vote and spread the word!
